A corrugated cardboard fireplace....

Does anyone remember these? I found it at www.mileskimball.com. You put it together with "tab a into slot b." It's got a "fire" in the fireplace. It's red bricks printed on the cardboard. Inside of the firebox is a C7 bulb that has a silver/metal disk on a metal stake that comes up around the bulb and you put the disk on this "stake." As the bulb gets warm/hot, the metal disk starts to turn. This creates the shadow effect which makes it look like a real fire flickering. We had one when I was a child, because we didn't have a real fireplace, and my father found this, and figured it would do. I can't remember whether it was strong enough to actually hang the stockings from, but you could put christmas cards on it, etc. As soon as I saw it, I remembered it from my childhood, and I just had to have it. At some point in the future, I have ever intention of getting one of the gel fuel fireplaces, but until then, this will have to do. :) For less than $20, you can't go wrong. :)

I have limited space in the living room with a piano so we end up turning the piano so the back side is showing. I made a "fireplace" using felt for the bricks, logs, and different colored flames. I put hooks on the back of the piano and that is where we hang the stockings.
I doscovered a site today
I doscovered a site today that not only has a cardbaord fireplace, put boxes for storaging your wreaths as well as strings of christmas lights. They have cardboard toy boxes. A 50.00 order will get you a free fireplace.
Here's the site: http://www.theboxcompany.com/toystorage-fireplace.html

I was googling for the cardboard fireplace and your blog came up. I pulled up www.kimball, but it does not mention the light bulb and the little fan that heats up from the light bulb. My question....does the one from kimball have the light bulb and small silver fan too? thanks!
I too went looking for the
I too went looking for the cardboard fireplace for my daughter's apartment. I found three for sale through amazon. The cheapest was from shindigz through amazon and was only $10. they do have their own website www.shindigz and then there were others from PaconCorp slightly more expenive. they are about 38 x 30 x 7 and they look like the ones mentioned from MilesKimball. I did find one that was also on Amazon for $52. it was listed as being full sized...40 x 48 x 8- and said it came with hooks to hang stocking from, it looks great. I did find it much cheaper at www.bronners.com for $39 ! NONE of them are electric like the vintage ones mentioned earlier and I decided to see what else could find and I found the coolest thing at www.collectionsetc.com for only $19.00 that is so pefect for these fireplaces...it is a fake log set with fan that blows fabric to look like a flame...and it is illuminated. What a perfect combo...Instead of putting in the cardboard flame I will use this one instead! You can even save more on it by getting a coupon for collectionsetc. on line! They have really cute stuff. Check it out!
To anyone else looking for this kind of fireplace..I hope this helps!
I just talked to Miles
I just talked to Miles Kimball and they told me that it does not come with a light bulb just a cardboard flame.

I remember these
We had one of those too
We had one of those too when I was growing up. I just went to MilesKimball.com and looked at the fireplace and it comes with a cardboard fire not like the one the other person described. I have been looking for the one he described but can't find it.
I have an idea tho.....I can by the cardboard fireplace and get electrical logs to use. That might do just as good.

I too was looking for one
I too was looking for one of those carboard fireplaces for my daughters apt and was outbid on a vintage one on Ebay with the electrical flame. SO I began a search and found three on amazon-but none had the electrical flame. The cheapest was from Shindigz, and there was another one available from Pacon Corp and they were from $10-23 for the same size fireplace...30x38x7 and there was a third available from Bronners.com that was VERY NICE and full sized 48x42x7 and it included hooks to hang stockings, it was $39 while Amazon listed it for $52. I then searched and found the coolest thing at Collectionsetc.com which was a electric logs and were $19 and they had a fan that blew fabric to look like flames and was also illuminated...so I was thrilled what a perfect match for what I had in mind. Hope this helps others if they are looking too.
