Placing Ribbon on a Christmas Tree

Can anyone tell me the trick to putting decorative ribbon, rather than garland on a tree? I've tried it in the past, and it just doesn't come out looking like the professionals do it. Is there a trick to it? Can someone give me directions? I have looked online, and have found nothing. Thanks a lot everyone. :)

Hi, I've been alternating
Hi, I've been alternating ribbon styles on my tree for a few years. There are a few ways to do it but I think my favorite is to just start at the top of the tree with about 5 yards (it's easier to work with the shorter pieces at the skinnier top of the tree). As someone else said "wired ribbon is the key". I find an inconspicuous spot on and inside branch and wrap the end of the ribbon around that branch (you're just wrapping about 2 inches of ribbon). I also like to have about 6 chairs around my tree and I walk from chair to chair decorating. I just start winding the ribbon, twisting occasionally and tucking it into "y" branches as I go. When you get to the end of your first short piece of ribbon just find another branch to tuck that end to and remember where that spot is so that you can start the next and larger piece there. Something else to think about is to make some simple bows from that same ribbon (I ususally need about 2 dozen for my 10 foot tree)You'd tie on a bow (twist ties are perfect for this part - saves on using your ribbon) and these bows will cover the start and end area of the ribbon. Then take the extra bows you made when you're all done with the ribbon garland and use them as fill in areas of the tree. The other way I like to use the ribbon is to make about 10 big "bananna curls" out of about 8 rolls of ribbon. What I do is wrap the wired ribbon around a broom handle tightly. Gently slide the rolled up ribbon off the stick. Reach into the center of the ribbon roll and grasp the end. Stand on a chair and gently let the ribbon fall. It makes a pretty curl. I attach the tighter end to the top of the tree and let the wider end of the curl fall to the floor. Do this equally spaced all around the very top of the tree. After all 8 pieces are secured go around the bottom of the tree and tim to the correct length. At the top of the tree, to cover the start points, I usually go with small bows made of the same material. Good Luck
I never tried it ether, but
My mom does this every year.
Thank you for answering me....
